Trombonist, Spenser Weese, is the assistant band director at Greeneville High School. He has performed with the JCSO for 15 years! Get to know more about Spenser below!
What is the best part of performing with the JCSO?
My favorite aspect of performing with the JCSO is playing the incredible repertoire.
What/who influenced your love of music?
My trombone professor, Mr. David Bubsey, played the largest role in my development as a musician.
What is your favorite hobby outside of music?
My wife and I are working on completing 100 different waterfall hikes. So far, we’ve finished 51!
What is your favorite animal and why?
Black bear because their personality is like that of a perpetually hungry introvert with a flair for drama.
Why did you pick your instrument to learn to play?
Initially, I didn’t pick trombone. I wanted to play trumpet in middle school, but the band director needed more trombone players. Once I got home and played my first note, I was very happy to be a trombone player.
What's the best piece of advice you've received as a musician?
Be a good musician. Be a great person.
What was your most memorable performance?
During my sophomore year of high school, the wind ensemble was invited to perform in Carnegie Hall for the New York Wind Band Festival. We played “Mock Morris” by Percy Grainger and, “Machu Picchu” by Satoshi Yagisawa. It was an incredible experience.
